How to stay sane and decorate a home office in Five simple steps
What Makes a home office nice?
When you’re decorating your home office, you may start to feel a little overwhelmed and wonder where. in. the. world. to start(?)!
STEP ONE: I recommend to start with what you already know:
- your favorite colors- you’ll want to use these, even if you’ve seen other color schemes on Pinterest or somewhere that you loved. Keep in mind, this is YOUR space and YOUR favorite colors are yours for a reason- they make you happy and feel certain good ways. So, go with this.
Once, you’ve figured that out, you can then decide which of them you like BEST and determine if you’d rather of that color on the walls, one accent wall, or just a neutral wall with that color as your main accent color. To determine this, ask yourself HOW MUCH of this color do you really want to see?
I’ll use myself as an example: I LOVE the color pink but I new I didn’t want my walls pink because I didn’t want it to look like Pepto-Bismol blew up in my room, ha! And, I didn’t want an accent wall because that would mean extra work and moolah and I didn’t want either of those problems. What I’m saying here is, ask yourself what fits into your time and your wallet.
STEP TWO: You’ll then want to place your furniture in place, STARTING with your DESK…just play around with it until something feels comfortable- don’t stress to much over this; furniture can always be moved. I placed my desk across from my window so that when I’m setting down at my desk, I can see outside and not feel trapped in a room.
Then, do want a love seat or chair(s) in the room so that people can sit in there and keep you company from time to time? I must admit, I am NOT a loner…I’m an only child but I think I defy the rule that only children like to be alone, because its what they’re use to. I practically beg my husband to sit in my office with me while I’m working, lol! So, to make this more comfy, I put a love seat in the corner across from my desk so that we could talk while I work. Can I just add here that I got my awesome love seat at a yard sale for $10 dollars!!!!!! I repeat, $10 dollars!!!!! YAY! Look! >>>>
STEP THREE. Next, will you need a filing cabinet or a cabinet…add those in if so.
STEP FOUR. Once the furniture pieces are in place, then you can get to the wall decor. Hang pictures that inspire you. I found a beautiful floral painting, that just SCREAMS “happy!!!” at me every time I look at it, at Ross Dress for Less (side note, Ross is an awesome place to get home items for cheap).
STEP FIVE. After the wall decor is in place, set up your little pieces. Ex: your desk necessities like your tape, stapler, machines, printer, table clock, etc.
What you’ll notice we did here was start with the BIG pieces and move gradually down to the smallest items.
Following these 5 steps will help you to, sanely, decorate your home office. Please share your home office photos with me! You can tag me on your Instagram pics, message me on Facebook at Julie J Blog, or comment bellow!
